The One With the Five-Minute Poster

Bad mom moment, averted. At least for today. This morning I woke Skippy up for school. There was no school yesterday, and he was tired from all that rest. By the time I dragged him kicking and screaming coaxed him out of his warm blankets, he only had about five minutes to get ready. That was when it suddenly occurred to me: Skippy is Star of the Week. {insert curse words here} Do I seriously have to make another Star of the Week poster? I have been making them for lo, these twenty years.

Miracle #1. I found a piece of poster board that was not too wrinkled.

Miracle #2. My color printer does a pretty decent job, so I was digging through digital albums on my computer, not through shoe boxes in my laundry room shelves.

Miracle #3. iPhoto prints in standard photo sizes... 3x5, 4x6, 5x7, 8x10... and it will even add a nice-looking mat or double mat around the photo.

Miracle #4. Wood glue will glue paper to poster board.

Miracle #5. Skipster was only ten minutes late to school.

Now, I just have to make sure to send in a picture of his favorite food tomorrow. He insists that his favorite food is cotton candy. Yes, out of all the food I make, his favorite is cotton candy. I don’t think that qualifies as a food, and I am not even positive he has ever even tasted cotton candy before, so I’m not sure where that came from. But, well... okay.

P.S. Why do I never get to be Star of the Week? (okay... repenting, here... on New Year’s Eve, we celebrated Victoria Day, wherein DK made me Star of the Day and we did everything I wanted to do. But I could still come up with a pretty good list of the privileges that come with Star of the Week, Victoria-style... haha!)

Oh my gosh, this is hysterical! I can sooooo relate.

And I think you are on to something: Moms need to be SOTW on a day other than Mother's Day. Great idea!

Wow, I remember those days. I'm sure that my kids posters were the total losinest posters on the planet.
It's so cool that you could pull that off.
As for the cotton candy, I think you should totally let him have that be his favorite food. Every kid in the class will want you as the mom.

I did that!!! Jax was the 'star' last year in kindergarten and I had to whip up a poster the night before. Not as impressive as the morning of but still.

(And no cotton candy is not a food. :) )

I think this actually happened with my last two boys. The last minute Star posters - Thank goodness for printers and computers or it would never get done.

On another note when I was cleaning out a closet the other day I found an old Star of the Week poster for one of the kids and we had a good laugh!

I'm with you I want to be star of the week!

Oddly enough, your post made me miss those days. I guess we could do star of the week at our house, but it would get a bit tiring after three weeks and we ran out of people.

How wonderful you had so many miracles so everything fell in to place. Lucky boy to have a mom who is so resourceful.

You ARE an experienced Star of the Week poster maker! Maybe we could initiate a traveling STAR of the Week poster, proudly to be displayed weekly in each others homes - just to remind us that somebody out there really KNOWS who the STAR actually is :)

Look at you super mom! I bet his poster looked uh-may-zing!

I agree with the moms not getting star of the week. we have a 'special plate' in our family and my kids are always hoping for it. I just realized this week I dont think I've ever gotten it. Although that may have to do with the idea that I delegate who gets it. Haha.
