The One With the Screaming Slingshot Monkeys

I apologize that I don't have a lot to say, but I realized that I had better post anyway, if only to keep bored people from composing off-color limericks in my comments section. Besides, you may have noticed, my "About Me" says "Quantity, not quality." I take that very seriously.

So...I am pretty excited right now. I won six screaming slingshot monkeys over at Della Hill's place! Della has a very fun blog. You should check it out: The Life and Times of Della Hill. Those monkeys have haunted my dreams for several days now. I have always thought it would be great to adopt some kids. Seven just isn't enough. However, DK/KH said no. That is why we have the missionaries. It is the next best thing. But I believe that these sweet, albeit loud, little monkeys, are really going to fill a void in my life. There is no such thing as loneliness when you have a whole litter of screaming slingshot monkeys. My only regret is that they couldn't join me on this trip. They probably could have helped to keep me awake on the drive.

Oh, and I was issued a challenge on Lisa's blog (Here's the link...but I'll warn you, it's not for the faint of heart). If you want to cruise on over there, you can read it in her words...but basically she offered me 50 bucks if I could bring her back some jerkey that was neither beef, pork, turkey, chicken or salmon. Easy peasy, Spice, ready your wallet... In fact, I am bringing you back both buffalo and elk jerkey. I am working on the trucker hat... from an actual trucker. Ewww.

Since I'm here, I may as well tell you a few not-so-interesting facts about Oregon. 1. They still have Birkenstock stores. Isn't that awesome? 2. They are rabidly "No on Prop. 8," even though that is a California ballot initiative. 3. You know those Harry & David catalogs that you get in the mail, where you can buy the Royal Riviera Pears? They are located here, and it was a seriously fun store. I even bought a couple of Royal Riv pears. 4. Here in Medford, they consider California people "hicks." Having grown up in the town just over the border in California, I sort of get that, but it is still amusing. 5. They still have full service gas stations, if you even remember what those are.

So tomorrow I'll be on the road. If you have any good suggestions for places I should stop, or just want to say hi while I'm driving, I'll be dropping a couple of posts, so be sure and check in!

Someone needs to finish my limerick.

No, I don't have anything interesting to say but I do have a question. I have to help Teri tomorrow in RS. Her lesson is about creativity. She wants me to say something about creativity, especially when it is in non-crafty form. I have no idea what she wants me to say here. I was thinking of tap-dancing, tell a few jokes, and maybe sing "Come, Come Ye Saints" in Lounge Lizard style. What say ye?

You're asking ME? When you have already come up with such great ideas? Well, I'm going to pretend you are being serious for a change. So, some ideas:

1. Some women (not me) come up with creative ideas to do with their kids. That is awesome for their (not my) kids.

2. Some women (me) write creative blogs, poetry, songs, make creative food, come up with creative ways to make ends meet financially, and take pictures and make them into fun books that preserve memories...ALL without being the slightest bit "crafty."

3. Some women (Charlene, the Steele girls) are very creatively doing their family history, and bless themselves and every other generation.

4. Some women (Cheri) find creative ways to serve their friends and neighbors. They go beyond saying hi at the mailbox. They get outside their comfort zone to find out what people really need.

5. Some people are creative when it comes to preparing family home evening lessons and making scripture study consistent and fun for their families.

6. Some people (Jamie) are creative when it comes to fulfilling church callings. They go the extra mile to make lessons fun, or to prepare materials that will really inspire others.

7. Some people (Wendy) are creative in the hospitality area. They really know how to throw a party or make people feel festive.

Could you take some video of the tap-dancing, lounge lizard CCYS for me? I will be on the road, and I hate to miss that...

Do you think that is what she is looking for? I guess so....it seems so obvious. Yes, people are creative in ways that don't involve die cuts.

I think creativity came from necessity when I was a kid. I got bored easily, so I had to create worlds to play in, write my own books, make up commercials on my little tape recorder, and creating science experiments with the food storage. Also, I am was super competitive with school projects. My parents didn't give us any money, ideas, help, or even supplies. I always had to figure out a way to "win" the school project competition (other people saw it as a mere classroom project--suckers) without being able to spend money.

Now, I still want to do some things well but I cannot scrapbook, cook anything that looks appealing, or set a nice table. So, I improvise with other things. Is this a talent? Nah, it is more like casual disdain.

I'm so glad you won the monkeys! I was hoping she would pick you. Yes, I did go check out her site when I saw her comment on your blog. I loved the comment you left & thought it was a winner! Drive safe tomorrow!

Lisa, the booger, didn't tell me she started her blog up again. And yes, I meant booger as in almost falling off her chair to pick one up!
